Deutschlandradio Kultur records its ‘Im Gespräch’ ('In Discussion') programme with Iris Berben in front of a live audience. Iris Berben is one of the most famous faces on German TV: she has been in front of the camera for almost 50 years and has starred in hundreds of cinema and TV films. She appeared as a joker in Sketchup, held her own in the male-dominated crime genre as inspector Rosa Roth in the mid-90s and achieved popular success with shows like the ZDF series Das Erbe der Guldenburgs. Her roles have earned her more than 30 major awards. Together with Bruno Ganz she has also been president of the German Film Academy since 2010. Despite her huge workload in front of and behind the camera, 64-year-old Iris Berben also makes time for her socio-political commitments. For years she has been passionate advocate of Israeli-German reconciliation. Her espousal of tolerance and vehement opposition to anti-Semitism not only won her the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany but also great public accolade. Traumfrauen, in which she plays a leading role, is in cinemas from 19 February. 'Im Gespräch' is broadcast Monday to Friday between 9am and 10am on Deutschlandradio Kultur.
