The 2015 Retrospective celebrates the 100th anniversary of a colour film process that has become a legend far beyond Hollywood. The film series is flanked by two new publications, “Glorious Technicolor” edited by the Deutsche Kinemathek and “The Dawn of Technicolor” from George Eastman House, which also initiated the idea of this year’s Retrospective. The programme was curated in a partnership between the Deutsche Kinemathek Berlin, The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) and the Austrian Film Museum, where the film series will also be presented in the course of the year. Following a short presentation of both books, the curators of those three institutions, Connie Betz, Joshua Siegel and Alexander Horwath will discuss the films with authors Prof. Sarah Street from the University of Bristol and James Layton from Eastman House, exploring the artistic characteristics and historical development of Technicolor films.
