Stateless

How many perspectives are there on a country and how many emotions does the notion of home encompass? A flight attendant on the run from her life and her family seeks support in a self-improvement sect. A young Afghan father fleeing persecution tries at all costs to save his family and preserve his dignity. A warden in a refugee camp searches for his mission in life. And an ambitious bureaucrat follows the rule book in the hope of moving up the political ladder, but at what cost? Behind barbed wire in the Australian desert, these worlds come together in a dramatic way for four very different characters.
This six-part series is a labour of love for actor and producer Cate Blanchett, who created and co-produced Stateless with Elise McCredie and Tony Ayres, and also appears in the series. The ABC series contributes to the conversation about migration, expanding the political dimension with an existential consideration: what if people separated by borders are in fact deeply connected by their common desire for a place where they can feel at home?
