Maggie's Plan

Thirtysomething Maggie is single and works as a lecturer in New York. She has a wide circle of friends and the odd affair but now she decides it is time to have a child. Since she is not one for long relationships, she manages to convince a young pickle-seller to drop off his sperm at her place. No sooner does he leave than John appears, an anthropology professor at the same college as Maggie. Maggie’s enthusiasm for engineering her own life and John’s passion to create his first novel bring the two closer together and, contrary to her original plans, Maggie embarks on a new life together with him and her new-born daughter. John’s children from his unhappy marriage with Georgette introduce a rather disturbing dynamic into Maggie’s life that makes her wonder how she managed to find herself in this situation. When she finally meets Georgette, she decides to rope the ex-couple into an experiment which aims to give everyone a great role within an entire spectrum of possible attachments. Acting out these endless permutations of relationships with engaging humour and plainly enjoying themselves are: Greta Gerwig, Ethan Hawke and Julianne Moore.
