Rong-Chen is a struggling member of a school recorder group. After she makes repeated mistakes during rehearsals, her teacher warns her that she might not be allowed to join the upcoming performance. One afternoon, Rong-Chen meets Shao-Yu who plays bass recorder in the group. He has just told the teacher that he has to quit because of his weak lungs. Rong-Chen admires Shao-Yu’s playing and asks him for help. He hesitates but gives her a few pointers. These lead to lessons which turn into days of joint practice and laughter. As Rong-Chen’s playing slowly improves, she begins to suspect that Shao-Yu’s reason for quitting the group may not be what it seems.
