Ni’er

The Girl
Ni’er, a 17-year-old girl, lives and works in her small hometown. Her days are divided between her family home and the petrol station managed by her dad. At home, she quietly endures discussions about her future and hands over her earnings to her father. At the petrol station, she performs repetitive manual labour through long day and night shifts. Ni’er’s world is shaken when a large truck arrives at the station and a young woman of around her age jumps down from the driver’s cab with an air of confidence and freedom unfamiliar to Ni’er. She watches, transfixed, as the woman completes her business and drives away. In the following days, Ni’er continues her duties but pauses more frequently during her work, gazing out beyond the station’s confines toward the highway. A longing for escape is growing within her, and Ni’er quietly embarks on a solitary journey away from everything she has ever known.
