Our Secret

A Black Brazilian family in the city of Belo Horizonte struggles to rebuild their lives after a recent loss. Caught between memories and nightmares, and unable to express what they feel to each other, a mother and her children try to evade the pain of grief by immersing themselves in their individual routines. Only the youngest child understands the secret that the house holds within its four walls and attempts to reveal it to the others, but it falls on deaf ears. When the family is finally confronted with the truth, they face the deep roots of their grief and come together to traverse this moment with love and courage.

Born in 1980, the Brazilian director, screenwriter and actor has already had a long career in the theatre where she has won many accolades. The first Black dramatist to be presented with a Shell Award, she has also won a number of international acting prizes. She has made the short film Republic, which won an award at the São Paulo International Short Film Festival, and the medium-length film Vaga Carne, which was selected for Forum Expanded in 2020. Nosso segredo is her debut feature film as a director.
