It is 1985 in the run-up to Christmas in a small town in County Wexford, Ireland. Bill Furlong toils as a coal merchant to support himself, his wife and his five daughters. Early one morning while out delivering coal at the local convent, he makes a discovery that forces him to confront his past and the complicit silence of a town controlled by the Catholic Church. Based on the novel of the same name by Claire Keegan.

Tim Mielants

His early short film success led to directing work on Code 37, Zingaburia and Cordon, establishing him as one of the key series directors in Flanders. His feature film debut De Patrick won Best Director at Karlovy Vary and seven Ensor Flemish Film Awards. He has directed an episode of Tales from the Loop and two seasons of Legion as well as episodes of The Terror, The Tunnel and all six episodes of the third season of Peaky Blinders. As lead director on the BBC series The Responder, starring Martin Freeman, he received nominations for the BAFTA, RTS and Emmy awards.
