My Mother and I

Kees, 17 years old, can’t wait to leave her home and head for France. Only her mother doesn’t really seem ready for the cutting of the umbilical cord. The joint road trip into the new life of the teenager develops into an emotional tour de force, especially for Kees. A mother-daughter relationship that is as intense as it is complex, which Emma Branderhorst tells with an eye sensitive towards the ambivalent feelings of her characters.

Emma Branderhorst

Born in the Netherlands in 1995, she graduated with a degree in directing from the University of the Arts Utrecht in 2019. Her short film Onderhuids premiered in Generation in 2020; Vlekkeloos was also presented in the section and won the Crystal Bear for Best Short Film in 2022. Currently developing her first two feature films, she also works as a commercials director. In 2022, she won the Young Director Award at Cannes and the Bronze Award in the New Talent in Direction category at the Ciclope Festival in Berlin.
