At the age of 17 Richard was found in his foster parent's garden with a noose around his neck. He had passed through 28 foster homes where he had been abused and neglected. Preserved in his diary, Richard's story has helped to change public perceptions of the politically charged conflict surrounding Canada’s 'Stolen Generations'.
