The Sponsors and Partners of the Berlinale Summer Special Are Set

The Berlinale Summer Special will receive support from the BKM and NEUSTART KULTUR, as well as from L’Oréal Paris, ZDF, rbb media, GWFF, ARRI and Colt.

The unusual two-stage format for the 71st Berlinale was made possible with support from the cultural funding programme NEUSTART KULTUR, through special funds available for both the Industry Event in March and the Berlinale Summer Special. The implementation was arranged as part of the Berlin Senate pilot project “Perspektive Kino”.

In addition, the Berlinale will continue to rely on the support of many long-standing partners whose strong commitment helps make the festival possible again in 2021.

“I’d like to extend my thanks to all the Berlinale’s partners for their support and their extraordinary flexibility in these challenging times. My special thanks also goes to the Federal Commissioner for Culture and the Media, Monika Grütters, for her support from the NEUSTART KULTUR programme,” comments Executive Director Mariette Rissenbeek on the significance of the Berlinale’s supporters and partners.

The following companies are official partners of the Berlinale Summer Special:

L’Oréal Paris
The Berlinale’s official cosmetics expert not only provided perfect touch ups with its professional makeup team at the Industry Event, but will also support red carpet appearances at the Summer Special (while maintaining all current hygiene regulations, of course). In addition, L’Oréal Paris will delight Berlinale audiences with their popular giveaways at selected venues.

ZDF
The Berlinale’s main media partner ZDF will be orchestrating the stage shows at the Museum Island outdoor cinema for the opening of the Berlinale Summer Special on June 9, the Award Ceremony on June 13, and the presentation of the European Shooting Stars Awards on June 14.
The Opening Gala will be broadcast live on the ZDF and 3sat media libraries, as well as at www.berlinale.de.

rbb media / rbb
As a wholly owned subsidiary of Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg (rbb), rbb media operates as a comprehensive service provider for rbb, and has been an official Berlinale partner since last year. The rbb itself also supports the Berlinale as a media partner and award sponsor for the Berlinale Documentary Award, endowed with 40,000 Euros. A three-person jury selects the winning film, and the award money is shared by the director/s and producer/s of the winning film.

GWFF
The Gesellschaft zur Verwertung von Film- und Fernsehrechten (GWFF), a society dedicated to safeguarding film and television rights, sponsors the GWFF Best First Feature Award, endowed with 50,000 Euros. The award money is shared by the director/s and producer/s of the award-winning film. The director/s are also presented with a high-quality viewfinder, both as a useful tool and a keepsake statuette.

ARRI
Among other areas of support, ARRI has once again created the popular Berlinale trailer this year. The trailer, which was designed by director Uli M Schueppel and is presented prior to every film screening, is the Berlinale’s characteristic call sign - now for the 20th year running.

Colt
Colt Digital Cinema has been a festival partner for over ten years, and is actively seeing the Berlinale through its digitisation process. Colt also provided the Industry Event with its heavy-duty fiber optic network in March, and will do so again for the Summer Special.
