The Berlinale Mourns the Death of Fernando Solanas

Fernando Solanas at the premiere of Viaje a los Pueblos Fumigados in 2018

The Berlinale mourns the death of Fernando Solanas. One of Latin America’s most important political filmmakers, he never tired of protesting against the injustices and iniquities in his home country of Argentina, as well as in the rest of the world. He was a resolute fighter who time and again risked his life for his convictions. In 2004, the Berlinale awarded him the Honorary Golden Bear; in 2018, he presented his penultimate film, Viaje a los Pueblos Fumigados (A Journey to the Fumigated Towns) at the festival. Last Friday, Solanas died in Paris. We will miss his voice.
