On February 10, the Berlinale Co-Production Market is inviting those active in the industry to the new CoPro Series pitching for the first time. CoPro Series is an exclusive event of Drama Series Days, the official new platform for serial content at the European Film Market and Berlinale Co-Production Market.
Six handpicked serial projects will be presented within the framework of the first CoPro Series. The projects come from Belgium, Germany, Israel, Norway, Spain and the USA. They include, for instance, Babylon Berlin, the first serial work by celebrated director Tom Tykwer (Das Parfum, Cloud Atlas), set against a vibrant 1920s Berlin; and the Belgium series Tabula Rasa by and with actress Veerle Baetens, who became known for her film The Broken Circle Breakdown, audience favourite of the Panorama at the Berlinale 2013.
As a new event for pitching and networking, CoPro Series – for invited producers and financers - would like to accommodate the market’s rapidly growing interest in top-quality series. At the same time, CoPro Series aims at encouraging film producers from the Berlinale Co-Production Market to take a look at and possibly embark on a venture into serial production and financing. The goal is to create a space for networking and the exchange of information between the film and drama series industries, while at the same time contributing to Drama Series Days in its attempt to provide a central meeting point for the series industry at the Berlinale.
In their capacity as advisors, series experts Peter Nadermann (Nadcon Film, Germany) and Jan de Clercq (Lumière Publishing, Belgium) assisted the Berlinale Co-Production Market team in selecting the new projects.
One of the six projects is being presented in cooperation with Séries Mania Paris. This festival is part of Forum des images and, since 2013, has organized a co-production platform for international TV series. It was here that Tabula Rasa was first presented last year. Its producers are now seeking additional financing partners in Berlin. In return one of the other five projects will be given a chance to meet with other partners at Séries Mania in Paris in April.
The Berlinale Co-Production Market is part of the European Film Market.
The main partners of the Berlinale Co-Production Market are the MDM – Mitteldeutsche Medienförderung and Creative Europe – MEDIA.
Once again, the Berlin House of Representatives – directly across from the European Film Market at Martin-Gropius-Bau – will serve as a cooperation partner and the main venue.
