The Perspectives Jury
Perspectives Jury 2026 (f.l.t.r.): Sofia Alaoui, Frédéric Hambalek, Dorota Lech
The Berlinale has been even more committed to supporting the next generation of film makers since 2006, when it introduced the Best First Feature Award in partnership with GWFF (Gesellschaft zur Wahrnehmung von Film- und Fernsehrechten, a collecting society that safeguards the remuneration of film and television rights).
The award for a fiction debut, endowed with 50,000 euros and funded by GWFF, will be given to one of the films premiering in the competitive section Perspectives. The prize money is to be split between the director and the producer of the winning film. Additionally, the director is awarded with a high-quality viewfinder as both a useful instrument and memorable trophy that should accompany them on their future road to success.
The award will be presented during the official Award Ceremony at the Berlinale Palast on February 21, 2026.
A three-member jury chooses the winner for the Best First Feature Award: Sofia Alaoui (Morocco), Frédéric Hambalek (Germany) and Dorota Lech (Poland/Canada).
