Asunción, Paraguay. The Heiresses is the story of a woman of prosperous social background, with a comfortable life due to an inheritance. At 60, however, she realises her inheritance is gone. This new reality alters the balance in which she has been living and forces her to transform a world that until then had seemed motionless.
I “inherited” the diaries of a woman who spent most of her life in the confinement of her own home, but difficult circumstances forced her to get out and confront life. In this process, a resurrection of sorts, she discovers her real self. Transforming her experiences into a narrative feature film made me think about Paraguay, my prison-country, and our system of “values” passed from one generation to the next, like a hereditary disease. A system that doesn’t allow us to change. This film comes out of my desire to heal.
