Still Recording (Lissa Ammetsajjel)

Synopsis
Saeed is a young cinephile trying to teach other young people the rules of film in Syria’s Eastern Ghouta, but the reality they face is so harsh it is hard to respect any rule. His friend Milad is on the other side of the fence in Damascus, under the control of the regime, finishing his studies in fine arts. Milad decides to leave the capital and joins Saeed in war-torn Douma where they set up a local radio station and a recording studio. They use the camera to film everything, until one day the camera starts to film them…

Director’s note
This film is a journey of self-assessment and observation with a quiet eye and mind, in order to learn forgotten lessons and maybe make some apologies. When the revolution started, I was sad to witness how confused the elite became, losing many chances to participate in this. I wondered whether there was any possibility to break down their ivory towers!
