The ACUDkino opened on the fourth floor of a former apartment block in 1991 as part of the ACUD alternative art society. When the building was completely renovated in 2004, the cinema moved into the coach-house and now has two beautiful, state-of-the-art auditoriums. The cinema programme focuses on new German and European film. A children’s film and a documentary are shown daily, and short film programmes are also part of the schedule. The ACUDkino hosts a wide range of festivals and film series and often screens films in their original language version. Filmmakers are regularly invited to the cinema. The ACUDkino frequently wins prizes for its excellent year-round film programme with, for example, the DEFA Foundation awarding the cinema a programming prize in 2002. Since 2017 the cinema has been a member of the Europa Cinemas network.
