Seventeen-year-old Jenny does not want to be here. It is only temporary, promised her uncle, but Jenny suspects this is not true. Her father became depressed when her mother died. First he lost his job, then their flat. Now they are in her uncle’s little mountain hut where nothing seems to work. Her dad just stares into space all day and Jenny has to do everything. She plays nursemaid to her father and both parents to her younger brother. To make sure they have at least some income she works as a chambermaid at the hotel next door. She does not want any of this and longs to be back in Ostia. She misses the sea and the cries of the seagulls. Above all she misses her friend and their shared passion for synchronised swimming. They have been training together for the championships which are due to take place soon. Jenny cannot believe she is going to miss them. Thankfully the hotel has a swimming pool, and there is even somebody who is prepared to help her. Dreamlike underwater photography of bodies moving and dancing to rhythmical music lends this remarkable feature debut its own unique atmosphere.
