Press Schedule

The restrictions set out by the recently updated Infection Protection Act make the planning of the Berlinale Summer Special (June 9 to 20) even more challenging.

The Berlinale now wants to explore the possibility of an all-outdoor event. A final decision regarding the Summer Special and access for the press will be made beginning of May. Everyone's health and curbing the development of the pandemic is, of course, the top priority when making any considerations.

Due to the change of the festival format, press appointments such as Press Conferences, Photo Calls or Red Carpets will not take place in March. These formats won’t be offered virtually either.

Online screenings for accredited press will take place from March 1 to 5 in the Berlinale Media Service (BMS). The films of this year’s programme will be shown during this time – provided the rights holders make them available - on a daily basis from 7:00 CET for 24 hours. Individual countries can be excluded by the rights holders through geo-blocking. The embargo times for world premieres are set by the rights holders for their films according to the CET zone. Accredited press will be given access to the BMS via their personal MyAccount and a schedule in advance of when which films will be screened. The award winning films will be repeated once more for the press on March 6 and March 7, 2021, provided that they were made available in the BMS by the rights holders of the films.

Accredited press are not entitled to specific films, nor to a specific number of films. If a film is not available, you may contact the films' publicists or contact person directly (see PR Contacts).

There will be a screening opportunity for the press at the Summer Special in June.

The terms for press participation in June will be announced in due course.
