“Berlin Film Residencies”: Medienboard, Nipkow and Berlinale Launch New Joint Website for Filmmakers

Medienboard, the Nipkow Programm and the Berlinale have formed a cooperation to pool their know-how and networks in the field of film scholarships. The new “Berlin Film Residencies” portal provides an overview of the different scholarship programmes supported by the Medienboard: the BERLIN Artist-in-Residency (BERLIN AiR), the Nipkow Programm, and the HAUS AM SEE Scholarship.

International filmmakers can use this portal to learn how and where they can apply for a work scholarship in Berlin and the surrounding area. Among other things, this creative atmosphere substantially contributed to the making of Foxtrot (Samuel Maoz), Lunchbox (Ritesh Batra), Gloria (Sebastián Lelio), as well as Zentralflughafen THF and Praia do futuro (both Karim Aïnouz).

Filmmakers from the German capital and the neighbouring region can find a selection of international work scholarships that will enable them to work for a few months on their projects at an inspiring location.

As a cooperation partner, the Berlinale will be offering an annual workshop for scholarship holders who are in the area at the time on topics related to festival and market access as well as co-productions. Regular networking meetings are also planned with the film industry in Berlin-Brandenburg.

“It is very important for us to offer filmmakers attractive opportunities that go beyond the festival itself. We are delighted that already this year eleven of the 16 Nipkow scholarship holders are alumni of Berlinale Talents. Here the first synergies are already evolving,” says Berlinale Executive Director Mariette Rissenbeek.

PLEASE NOTE: Filmmakers from around the world can apply for a scholarship in Berlin until February 4, 2020; Berlinale Talents alumni can log into the Nipkow Programme using their existing login details. Further information is available at www.berlinfilmresidencies.de.

Other initiatives offering film scholarships in the German capital and the neighbouring region are kindly invited to present their programmes on the new website. Please contact for more information.
