Berlinale: Professionals (Festival/EFM)

Information on Accreditation / EFM Registration for Industry Professionals

Accreditation period: November 1, 2018 until January 6, 2019
Market Badge for the Early Bird rate up until November 30, 2018 (CET)

Applications received after January 6, 2019 may not be considered.

Please note the admission policy for the European Film Market has changed

Due to a strong increase in participating industry professionals and in order to ensure the safety of our visitors, the admission policy for the EFM 2019 has been adapted:

A Festival Accreditation grants access to the EFM locations (Gropius Bau & Marriott Hotel) only on Feb 07 (Thu) and as of Feb 12 (Tue).
Please understand that no admission can be granted on particularly busy market days (Fri-Mon) with a Festival Accreditation.

The Market Badge, however, allows access to all EFM locations throughout the entire duration of the European Film Market (Feb 07-15).

Only Market Badge holders have access to the market platforms EFM Horizon, DocSalon, EFM Producers Hub, Berlinale Africa Hub and Drama Series Days.

Industry professionals can apply for a Festival Accreditation and/or a Market Badge.

  • The Festival Accreditation allows access to festival screenings of each section, though not at all times or at every venue, and to public events of the Berlinale Talents programme. Tickets for those screenings are free of additional charge. On Thursday, February 7 and from Tuesday, February 12 onwards, Festival Accreditation holders will also have access to the market venues Gropius Bau and Marriott Hotel.
  • The Market Badge allows priority access to the EFM locations (Gropius Bau & Mariott Hotel) during all market days (Feb 07-15, 2019). In addition, Market Badge holders have access to market screenings, the EFM business tools (Participants Directory, Screening Schedule, Daily Planner, My Film Entry & Trailer) as well as the market platforms EFM Horizon, DocSalon, EFM Producers Hub, Berlinale Africa Hub and Drama Series Days.

A precondition for EFM Registration / Festival Accreditation is a proof of your current professional activity as a filmmaker or representative of the film industry, cultural institution or another film festival. When applying, please provide your professional supporting documents according to the accreditation requirements.

The accreditation fee depends on the kind of accreditation you requested and the date your application is submitted. Approval of applications submitted after January 6, 2019 cannot be guaranteed.

The Festival Accreditation allows access to festival screenings of each section, though not at all times or at every venue. Access to screenings is possible either by showing your accreditation badge or by obtaining a ticket. One week prior to the festival, the Berlinale will inform you by e-mail about the detailed access regulations of your accreditation.

Access with Festival Accreditation and Ticket

How do I obtain a ticket?

  • Most public screenings require tickets, which are free of additional charge. These tickets are available at ticket counters reserved for accredited participants and must be picked up in person by showing your badge. They are issued on a first-come, first-served basis and are subject to availability. Tickets for accredited festival participants are only valid for personal use and only in combination with your Festival Accreditation. The badge must be presented together with your ticket at the cinema entrance. There is a maximum of one ticket per person per screening and time slot. Note that there is no guarantee for obtaining tickets for certain screenings or for obtaining a particular number of tickets.

Can someone else pick up tickets for me?

  • Tickets must be picked up in person by showing your badge.

How many days in advance can I get a ticket?

  • Tickets for accredited participants are available for the on-going and the following day. No advance reservations are possible.

When is the best time to appear at the ticket counter to request my preferred tickets?

  • Tickets are issued on a first-come, first-served basis. Please be aware that there might be long queues at the ticket counter, especially during the first weekend of the festival. The earlier you arrive at the ticket counter, the higher are your chances of getting the tickets you prefer.

How can I cancel a ticket?

  • We kindly ask you to return tickets that cannot be used at the respective issue counter. For expired tickets, there is no possibility to visit another screening of the film, because accredited guests can receive a maximum of one ticket per film / event.

Access only with Festival Accreditation (without a ticket)

  • A small selection of screenings can be visited by only presenting your Festival Accreditation at the cinema entrance. You have to queue in line for accredited persons at the respective cinema. Please note that admittance to a cinema for which you would only need to show your accreditation badge cannot be guaranteed. For particularly popular screenings you are advised to arrive early in order to secure an advantageous place in the queue, because it is likely that the number of accredited people seeking admittance will exceed the number of seats reserved for this group.

The Market / Buyers Badge enables access to all EFM Screenings, selected Berlinale Press Screenings and selected festival screenings. Market / Buyers Badge holders are not able to obtain tickets for those selected festival screenings, but have to queue at the respective venue/cinema. If there is more than one line, please queue at the one marked "Access with a Festival Accreditation / Market Badge without tickets". Note that access to screenings is not guaranteed. Admissions are on a first come, first served basis and subject to availability.

Accreditation requirements / Your professional supporting document:

In order to review your application, we need the following information:

  • your company’s field of activities (company profile with a detailed list of recent projects)
  • your area of responsibility / your position in the company

You can provide evidence of your professional affiliation by pointing us to an up-to-date website or by uploading relevant documents. Confirmed EFM Exhibitors do not have to submit supporting documents.

Please note that we do not provide an unlimited number of accreditations to any given company. We recommend that you register staff members in the order of your company's priority. Only staff members with permanent positions in your company can be accredited.

Individuals should upload an up-to-date CV and / or filmography. Festival entries, awards and any funding received should be mentioned in the filmography. The projects and activities of the last three years are crucial for accreditation.

Proof of professional activity can also be supported by giving a link to an up-to-date website. This, however, may not substitute the upload of at least one professional supporting document.

Members of a national professional association that is a Berlinale cooperation partner should contact their association before filling out the Berlinale online accreditation form. They should provide you with a so-called “association code”, which proves your professional status as a filmmaker or representative of the film industry. No further verification documents are required.

The Berlinale cooperates with the following national professional associations:

  • Berliner Film- und Fernsehverband e.V.:
