Russian-Ukrainian director Kira Muratova passed away on June 6, 2018 at the age of 83 in Odessa, Ukraine.
Multiple award-winning filmmaker directed over a dozen full-length films as well as short films and one documentary. She received the Silver Bear - Special Jury Prize for her drama Asteniceskij sindrom (The Asthenic Syndrome) at the Berlin International Film Festival in 1990. Five more of Muratova’s films went on to be screened in the Berlinale programme - most recently Spravka (The Information), on the daily madness of a Russian hospital. Spravka was presented in Competition in 2005.
