Since 2010, Berlinale Goes Kiez has honoured the vibrant diversity of cinemas throughout the capital and surrounding regions by featuring one local cinema as an additional Berlinale venue on each of seven consecutive evenings. Daily, from February 9 to 15, 2019, when the Red Carpet is rolled out in a different neighbourhood, not only the film teams will be in the limelight, but also the cinemas themselves and their visitors. For its tenth anniversary, Berlinale Goes Kiez is returning to several movie theatres it went to in its first year, as well as visiting three local cinemas for the first time.
In short video portraits Andrea Stosiek (Sputnik Kino), Matthias Stütz (Kino Union), Elisa Rosi and Hansi Oostinga (Lichtblick Kino), Oliver Speiser (b-ware! Ladenkino), Thomas Baumann (Blauer Stern), Elena Zimmer-Bashir (Odeon) as well as Anne Lakeberg and Wiebke Thomsen (City Kino Wedding) invite viewers to come and get to know their venues. Moreover, they are on hand to greet visitors personally at the screenings, and in doing so underscore the openness and charm of Berlinale Goes Kiez.
The full programme will be announced on January 29.
As of February 4, tickets for the regular screenings will be available at all locations where Berlinale tickets are on sale, and at the respective neighbourhood cinemas.
This year’s Berlinale Goes Kiez will again honour the festival’s commitment to break down barriers and enable cultural participation with a special event in a prison.
