Berlinale Spotlight: Berlinale Shorts in Iraq

For the first time, and in cooperation with the Goethe-Institut Irak, the Duhok International Film Festival (September 9 – 16, 2017) in Iraq will present a Berlinale Spotlight: Berlinale Shorts. Two short film programmes were compiled for the Duhok International Film Festival by Maike Mia Höhne, curator of the Berlinale section Berlinale Shorts.

The programmes will present films from the Berlinale Shorts competition of the 2017 Berlin International Film Festival, including Cidade Pequena (Small Town) by Diogo Costa Amarante (Golden Bear for Best Short Film), Centauro (Centaur) by Nicolás Suárez (Honourable Mention), Martin Pleure (Martin Cries) by Jonathan Vinel and Everything by David OReilly.

Short film has always been held in special regard at the Berlinale. The short film format captivates audiences with unconventionality and complexity in both content and form. The works shown overcome limitations, genre conventions and seasoned paradigms. The Berlinale Spotlight in Iraq invites audiences to discover the diversity and artistic innovation of the Berlinale Shorts section.
