With the main theme "2015: A Space Discovery", Berlinale Talents invites 300 emerging filmmakers to discover new ways of looking at cinematic space. Throughout nearly 100 talks and workshops, experts and talents dedicate themselves to film as a multi-dimensional spatial art, jointly exploring various perspectives for the screen, or how characters unfold the action spaces of edited stories and imagery. Berlinale Talents relates all this, on a local and global level, to the economic and cultural spaces in which talents develop, create and market their films.
"Technically and aesthetically the cinematic space is just being re-invented these days, while our daily living spaces are tangibly being transformed by political and economic upheavals. Filmmakers navigate in many dimensions, their films therefore offer the frameworks or let them overcome boundaries. We look forward to turning Berlinale Talents once again into an open space for encounters, exchanges and networking," says Programme Manager Florian Weghorn on this year's thematic focus.
The composer Howard Shore has already confirmed his presence as an expert. Shore has achieved worldwide renown for his work on such films as Hugo and The Aviator (Martin Scorsese), The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies (Peter Jackson), Se7en (David Fincher), and The Silence of the Lambs (Jonathan Demme). He has scored 15 films by David Cronenberg, including his latest Maps to the Stars. Shore is the recipient of three Academy Awards, three Golden Globes and four Grammy Awards. At Berlinale Talents, he will share his creative working methods in a masterclass moderated by acclaimed writer Peter Cowie.
Berlinale Talents 2015 is a summit and networking platform for 300 outstanding talents from the fields of directing, production, acting, screenwriting, cinematography, editing, production design, film criticism, world sales, distribution, sound design and score composing. An international selection committee is currently viewing the 2,529 applications from 117 countries. Berlinale Talents will take place from February 7-12, 2015, at the HAU Hebbel am Ufer.
