The Berlinale mourns the loss of Maximilian Schell

The Berlin International Film Festival mourns Maximilian Schell, one of the greatest German-speaking personalities in the field of art in the post-war era. The actor and director died on February 1, 2014 at the age of 83. He won an Oscar in 1962 for his performance as Hans Rolfe in Stanley Kramer's Judgement at Nuremberg (1961). Marlene, the documentary film he directed about Marlene Dietrich, screened in the Berlinale Competition in 1984. In 1998 he returned to the Competition as an actor in Jeroen Krabbé's Left Luggage.
