The Berlin International Film Festival Mourns the Loss of Otto Sander

Otto Sander, one of the most renowned actors in German cinema and theatre, has died at the age of 72. In addition to national fame, Sander also garnered worldwide recognition for his performances in Wim Wenders' Wings of Desire, Wolfgang Petersen's Das Boot and Volker Schlöndorff's The Tin Drum, amongst others.

The great actor Otto Sander was a member of the Berlinale International Jury in 1990, and recipient of the "Berlinale Camera" at the 2008 festival.

"We mourn the loss of a great German actor, a significant contributor to German cinema, and a humorous friend," said Festival Director Dieter Kosslick.
