During the 61st Berlin International Film Festival, Perspektive Deutsches Kino will celebrate its 10th birthday. This section has established itself with the film industry as well as with national and international audiences as an important platform for young talented German directors. At the Berlinale in 2011, Perspektive Deutsches Kino films will for the first time qualify for the Best First Feature Award, a prize awarded to a debut film from one of the Berlinale sections.
“The Perspektive Deutsches Kino’s participation in the competition for Best First Feature Film will heighten its appeal even more. Especially the production scene in Germany will receive this news with enthusiasm,” says Linda Soeffker, new head of Perspektive Deutsches Kino since February 2010.
In the past, the Best First Feature Award has gone to a debut film screening in the Competition, Panorama, Forum or Generation sections; as of 2011, it may also be awarded to a film from Perspektive Deutsches Kino. A three-member jury will choose the winning film.
Donated by the GWFF (Gesellschaft zur Wahrnehmung von Film- und Fernsehrechten – a society for safeguarding film and television rights), the award is endowed with 50,000 euros, and goes to the producers and director of the winning film.
