The 54th Berlin International Film Festival will be held from February 5 to 15, 2004. Due to the huge success of the Berlinale Kinotag (an initiative for the audience) and the positive international reaction to the Berlinale Talent Campus, these two new festival events will be held again in 2004.
There will also be a new regulation in 2004: US productions competing just prior to the Berlinale in the Sundance Film Festival will now be accepted for submission to the Competition of the Berlin International Film Festival. The FIAPF (Fédération Internationale des Associations de Producteurs de Films), which supervises the standards of so-called “A” film festivals, such as Cannes, Berlin and Venice, has given its approval. Festival Director Dieter Kosslick stated: “For American productions, especially for independent productions, this new procedure offers a unique chance within a very short period to position a new film not only on the market in America, but also worldwide at the Berlinale - and testifies once more to the good relationship between Germans and Americans.”
