The Panorama programme is now complete: it includes 38 feature films, 17 documentaries and 22 short films. They will be presented in Panorma, Panorma Special and Panorma Documents. The last films invited include works by such celebrated directors as Ann Hui (Hong Kong), Sergej Ovcarov (Russia), Beto Brant (Brazil), Daniel Burman (Argentine) and André Heller (Austria).
Many stars have already announced their attendance: Valeria Bruni Tedeschi, Geraldine Chaplin, Ana Fernandez, Ulrich Noethen, Robert Stadlober and Russell Crowe. Actor-director Paul Mazursky will attend the screening of Big Shot's Funeral by Feng Xiaogang (People's Republic of China), in which he co-stars with Ge You and Donald Sutherland. Faye Dunaway will present her directorial debut: the short film The Yellow Bird, featuring Brenda Blethyn and James Coburn, narrated by Tennessee Williams. Author David Leavitt will accompany Ventura Pons with Food Of Love (Spain), which was adapted from his novel "The Page Turner".
The Panorma will open on February 6th with All About Lily Chou Chou by Shunji Iwai (Japan). The loneliness of adolescence, communication in online chat rooms and poignant images typify the modern intensity of this year's contributions from Japan.
The Panorma Special will open on February 7th with a brilliant psychological thriller, Honogurai mizuno sokokara (Dark Water) by Hideo Nakata (Japan), as well as with a perfect depiction of the hedonistic mood in France at the beginning of the Seventies, La Bande du Drugstore (Dandy) by Francois Armanet.
The Panorma Documents section will open on February 7th with The Burning Wall by Hava Kohav Beller. In this US film about divided Germany, Robert Havemann's life is traced from 1930 until the opening of the Stasi archives. Individuals such as Stefan Heym, Richard von Weizsäcker, Bärbel Bohley, Vaclav Havel, Günter Grass, Corinna Harfouch, Reiner Kunze, Bettina Wegener, Jürgen Fuchs, Pastor Erhart Neubert ("Now we shall build our GDR, the ideal GDR"), as well as Günter Schabowski have a say.
The theme of eight features and documentaries in the Panorma is "migration" - a fate shared by more people today than ever before. "Migration" rounds off the selection of the programme's topics, which includes the "spirit and ideals of the Seventies", "autistic tendencies" and "music".
