The Berlin International Film Festival mourns the passing of Hildegard Knef. In commemoration the Berlinale, in collaboration with the Berlin Film Museum, will present films with and about this great artist. The documentary "That's a Woman and a Half - Hildegard Knef", which was shown as an homage during last year's festival, will be part of this programme. The final selection of films has not yet been decided.
On hearing of Hildegard Knef's death, Berlinale director Dieter Kosslick stated: "Hildegard Knef was one of the greatest international stars ever produced by Germany: a willful artist - versatile, provocative, unmistakable over generations. And one didn't have to see Hildegard Knef to recognize her. Everyone knew her voice. When she spoke about the world and art, one heard a sensitive, contemplative and eternally inquisitive woman. She was a true star and a real Berliner. This year's Berlinale will pay tribute to her during the festival. The entire film community feels great sorrow."
