During the CineMart 2002 Closing Night Party (January 30, 2002 at the 31st International Film Festival Rotterdam), Johannes Wachs (Berlin International Film Festival) announced the six projects selected for the first Rotterdam-Berlinale Express.
The Rotterdam-Berlinale Express takes the following, already successfully launched Cinemart 2002-projects to be presented on Monday, February 11, 2002 at 10.00 am at the European Film Market of the 52nd Berlin International Film Festival:
LA NIÑA SANTA
(Lucrecia Martel, La Niña Santa SRL, Argentina)
WAITING FOR THE CLOUDS
(Yesim Ustaoglu, Silkroad Production, Turkey)
THE PARADISE GIRLS
(Fow Pyng Hu, Motel Films, The Netherlands)
FATHER AND SON
(Aleksandr Sokurov, Zero Film, Russia/Germany)
SPRINGTIME IN A SMALL TOWN
(Tian Zhuangzhuang, Beijing Film Studio, China)
THE GIGGLE FACTOR
(Jamie Babbit, Giggle Inc., USA)
Selection criteria for the Rotterdam-Berlinale Express have been the same as for CineMart in general: focussing on high potential projects within worldwide independent cinema and including both well known film-makers as well as emerging talents.
After the pitching session, the representatives of the six projects will be available for one-to-one meetings at the new Berlinale Guest Reception. These meetings can be arranged either before the festival via e-mail, at the office of the European Film Market, from 6 February (ph. +49 · 30 · 259 · 20 · 666, Jana Wolff) or on the spot after the pitching.
The Rotterdam-Berlinale Express will conclude with a reception, hosted by the Berlinale, European Film Promotion/Shooting Stars and the CineMart on February 11.
