Is there a point to filmmaking at times of conflict and war in the Middle East? Reaching millions of viewers across the Arab world and produced by Deutsche Welle, the interactive, innovative talk show “ShababTalk” critically confronts socially-charged topics like human rights, freedom of speech and press, religion and sexuality. “Shabab” means “youth” in Arabic, and its wild popularity reflects an interest amongst the region’s youth in controversial, progressive issues. Join host Jaafar Abdul Karim for a special edition of ShababTalk featuring Talents and filmmakers from the region as guests, discussing the role and daily lives of artists in the Arab world and whether filmmaking has any impact on society in times of war and conflict.
