Volker Schlöndorff und Wolfgang Kohlhaase im Gespräch

##
Der junge Törless (1965/66), directed by Volker Schlöndorff, was awarded three gold film prizes, was shown in Cannes and garnered the FIPRESCI critics’ prize. Today, it is considered one of the pioneering works of “Young German Film”. At the same time, in East Germany, Gerhard Klein made Berlin um die Ecke, with a screenplay by Wolfgang Kohlhaase. But instead of a successful release, the film was banned in the wake of the 11th plenum of the SED central committee. Dr. Rainer Rother, artistic director of the Deutsche Kinemathek, will speak with Volker Schlöndorff and Wolfgang Kohlhaase about their personal experiences in the tumultuous 1966 year in film. What were production conditions like in East and West? What German or international sources influenced their work? This event is presented in cooperation with OSRAM GmbH.
