Berlinale Special 2013

As part of the Festival’s official programme, the Berlinale Special 2013 is presenting recent works by contemporary filmmakers, as well as film portraits of outstanding personalities and extraordinary formats.

The Berlinale Special Gala Screenings will be held in the presence of prominent guests at the Friedrichstadt-Palast.

Again in 2013, moderated discussions will follow the screenigs of Berlinale Special films. And the venue for this format will once more be the Haus der Berliner Festspiele. Here, renowned directors will present and discuss their latest films. Ken Loach takes a look at post-war Britain and tracks the birth of a new socialism. Raoul Peck has documented the consequences of the charity hype after the earthquakes on Haiti. Two documentaries about the Paralympics show the value of diversity: Gold – Du kannst mehr als Du denkst (Gold – You Can Do More Than You Think) and Mein Weg nach Olympia (My Way to Olympia). With Jane Campion’s mini-series, Top of the Lake, the Berlinale Special 2013 is presenting an outstanding TV production. And the documentary Unter Menschen (Redemption Impossible) focuses on the impacts of animal testing.

Unter Menschen (Redemption Impossible) by Christian Rost and Claus Strigel

Within the scope of the “Berlinale Goes Kiez” series, the four most recent films in the long-term documentary Berlin - Ecke Bundesplatz by Detlef Gumm and Hans-Georg Ullrich will premiere as Berlinale Special screenings at the newly reopened Bundesplatz-Kino.
