At the 61st Berlin International Film Festival, the House of World Cultures (Haus der Kulturen der Welt/HKW) will be the new venue for the premieres of Generation, the Berlinale’s section for children and youths.
Also the Panorama Special will be presenting its premieres in the coming year at new venues: at the Friedrichstadtpalast and Kino International. This is due to renovation and remodelling work at the Zoo Palast, which has until now been the popular venue for the premieres of both these sections. Rich in tradition, the Zoo Palast is scheduled to re-open in late 2012.
Premieres of both Generation Kplus and Generation 14plus will be screening at the House of World Cultures (HKW) in 2011. This means that both Generation competitions will be united under one roof. Berlinale shuttle busses will supplement public transportation services to this venue during the Festival. Re-screenings will still be held in the CinemaxX 3, the Cubix at Alexanderplatz and the Filmtheater am Friedrichshain.
In the past two years the Friedrichstadtpalast has turned out to be a wonderful venue for the glamorous premieres of Berlinale Special. In the coming year Panorama audiences will also fill this house for Panorama Special premieres. Panorama premieres will be held at the Kino International as well. Previously this cinema was primarily the venue of re-screenings.
The CinemaxX 7 will continue to be one of the premiere venues of the Panorama Main Programme.
The 61st Berlin International Film Festival will take place from February 10 to February 20, 2011.
