Accreditation Process

How long does it take to receive a confirmation of my accreditation application?
Applications are processed as quickly as possible in the order in which we receive them. Processing can take up to five working days, especially for applications received just before one of the deadlines. During the EFM, processing of Online Market Badge application will take place within a maximum of 24 hours. As soon as your application has been processed, you will receive an e-mail from the accreditation office. If you applied for an accreditation more than two weeks ago and have not yet received an e-mail, please contact the accreditation office.

The accreditation office has not yet processed my application. The Regular Rate deadline is about to expire. Will I have to pay the more expensive price?
As long as you made your application before the deadline, you will only have to pay that price. The date on which an application is submitted determines the price you must pay.

How do I know if I’ve been granted a Buyers status?
From January onward, you will be able to see in the EFM Participants Guide whether or not you have been granted a Buyers status. The Buyers status is granted by the EFM. You will be considered if you selected “Acquisitions (...)” as your field of activity on the application form.

Berlinale Co-Production Market

I would like to pitch my project at the Berlinale Co-Production Market. What should I do?
The purchase of an Online Market Badge does not grant you full participation (including the pitching of your project and networking events) in the Berlinale Co-Production Market. You are required to apply via a separate selection process by the respective deadline. You can find more information on the Berlinale Co-Production Market website.

I am a producer/financier looking for new projects to co-produce or co-finance at the Berlinale Co-Production Market. What should I do?
Full participation in the Berlinale Co-Production Market (including the “Co-Pro Series Pitch” and networking events) requires the purchase of an Online Market Badge and additionally a separate registration directly with the Berlinale Co-Production Market. This process takes place from November till January. You can find more information on the Berlinale Co-Production Market website.

How do I get access to the EFM online features?

Press

What happens to my accreditation if it was issued in November or December?
Accreditation applications that were submitted prior to the announcement of the new festival format for 2021 on December 18, 2020, will be checked for fulfilment of the new accreditation requirements and reprocessed starting on January 25, 2021. Please note that the new format required that the terms of participation were updated as well.
If you do not wish to participate in the new format, you may cancel your accreditation. Press Accreditation cancellations can be sent via e-mail to until February 24, 2021.

Can the press get accredited for the Online Industry Event if press coverage is not planned until the summer event?
No, press accreditation for the Online Industry Event is only possible if film reviews and coverage are published concurrently in March.

Can the press get accredited specifically for the Berlinale Summer Special?
Press will be given access to events and screening opportunities for the audience festival in June. There will be no online accreditation process (there is no fee), and the conditions for press participation will be announced prior to the event. We ask for your understanding that we cannot take pre-registrations at the moment.

Will there be virtual Press Conferences or Photo Calls?
No, there will be no attendable events such as Press Conferences, Photo Calls or Red Carpets in March.

What download services are available in March?
The following press materials are available to accredited press:

How do I get online access to the films I want to cover?
A Press Accreditation gives you access to the Press & Industry Screenings in the Berlinale Media Service (BMS) from March 1 to 5, 2021. In order to give the films the best support possible, we are giving the film rights holders the opportunity to also make the films accessible online to accredited press from March 1 to 5, 2021. Access capacities are limited, the films will be available to the press for 24 hours starting at 7:00 am (CET), and rights holders can exclude individual countries using geoblocking. Accredited press are not entitled to specific films, nor to a specific number of films. If a film is not available, you may contact the films' publicists or contact person directly. The award winning films will be repeated once more for the press on March 6 and March 7, 2021, provided that they were made available in the BMS by the rights holders of the films.

Why is access limited?
These online screenings are an extended offer by the rights holders to industry representatives. They are not regular festival press screenings. Therefore, similar to market screenings, it is the rights holders' decision whether or not to make the film available to representatives of the press.

What does it mean if a film isn't viewable due to geoblocking?
Geoblocking of a certain country means that you can't access the screening of the film if your individual IP address is assigned to that country.
