On the school bus ride home, Agastya is left adrift when his best friend, Naman, chooses to sit elsewhere. This small change quickly spirals into a quiet storm of questions about identity, guilt and longing. During this journey full of chaos and childhood games, a playful magic trick leads Agastya to confront unspoken emotions and the pressure to fit in. Set entirely in a single afternoon, Abracadabra is a tender story about friendship, identity and the invisible ways in which children absorb the world’s expectations; on a bus that moves forward, even when they are not ready to.

Amay Mehrishi is an Indian filmmaker based in London and a recent graduate of the MA Filmmaking programme at the London Film School. He previously earned a bachelor’s degree in marketing and innovation from the National University of Singapore, which shaped his understanding of audience and narrative – skills that now enrich his filmmaking practice. Drawn to stories that capture human flaws and nuanced emotions with a commitment to realism, Amay works fluidly across fiction and documentary as both a director and producer. Currently developing his next documentary project, he seeks to engage more deeply with his roots, exploring stories with relentless curiosity.
