Years ago, a helicopter crashed under mysterious circumstances high in the mountains of southeast Cambodia. Now a journalist joins up with a soldier to investigate this cold case. As the two characters traverse the thickly overgrown forest trail leading to the crash site, they encounter a shaman who tells them of an animistic rain ritual. As the journalist penetrates more deeply into the foreign terrain, sounds and images recur and he begins to believe that his reality must be a distortion of the past. The film assembles composites of various helicopter incidents in Cambodia and references the sacredness of the jungle whose inhabitants function as mediums of the country’s archaic beliefs and ancestral practices – this is where the early Khmer civilisation is said to have originated.
