Mohammad Shirvani
Mohammad Shirvani, born 1973 in Tehran, is an Iranian independent filmmaker and producer. Since his first short film The Circle was selected for the Semaine de la Critique in Cannes in 1999, he has made over 20 short and feature-length fiction and documentary films. His debut feature Navel (2003) marked a turning point for underground cinema in Iran. His second feature Fat Shaker (2013) won the Tiger Award at the IFFR (Rotterdam). Since 2012, he has supported underground filmmaking in Iran through the Alternative Film Lab in Tehran. His films have screened at major festivals worldwide.
