A well-to-do German family – mother Esther, father John and their two children Alba and Philipp – spend the summer holidays in their villa in the south of France. Everything seems perfect. But the façade begins to crumble one evening when, following an accident on a country road, they take in a young woman and hire her as a maid. Behind the family’s initial willingness to help, other motives soon emerge: each family member has their own idea of how they want to take advantage of the woman. But this is a serious mistake that they will soon come to regret and which will dramatically change the life of the entire family – because Teodora has an agenda of her own.
In this impressive debut film, Nele Mueller-Stöfen serves up a seductively casual and quite biting blend of genres and whets her audience’s appetite for more.
