Berlinale Goes Kiez: The Programme

Berlinale Goes Kiez brings international film guests and the public to Berlin’s neighbourhood cinemas, such as the City Kino Wedding.
From February 15 to 21, Berlinale Goes Kiez will once again put the spotlight on neighbourhood cinema. Over seven days, selected festival films will be shown in arthouse cinemas of the capital region. International film teams and the public are invited to experience the cinema culture of Berlin and the surrounding area.
The special series, initiated in 2010, will be rolling out the little Red Carpet in front of a total of seven neighbourhood cinemas every day and visits the audience in their own neighbourhood.
The neighbourhood cinemas are diverse in their history, programming and architecture. Thanks to their cinema operators, the film-cultural and socio-political programme remains lively throughout the year. The social function of cinemas, as places of community and discourse, is honoured in particular by the special series.
With a total of 17 films from the Competition, Berlinale Special, Perspectives, Panorama, Generation, Forum, Berlinale Classics and a short film programme of the Berlinale Shorts, the special series offers a cross-section of the festival programme at unique venues.
Each event will be followed by an introduction and/or a discussion with the film teams. Anne Lakeberg and Hauke Heumann will alternate as hosts through the programme. Cinema enthusiasts will have the opportunity to talk to filmmakers and exchange ideas in an informal atmosphere.
The operators present unique aspects of each venue in brief video portraits.
