Co-Pro Series 2025: Ten International Series Projects to be Pitched

Co-Pro Series Pitches

On February 18 and 19, the Berlinale Co-Production Market is organising Co-Pro Series for the eleventh time, consisting of a pitch event, meetings and networking around the specially curated selection of ten promising international series projects that will be presented to interested partners.

The pitches will take place on February 18 at CinemaxX, followed by a networking event and several hundred planned one-on-one meetings for the producers and creators of the projects with potential co-producers, financiers and representatives of world sales companies and international distributors, funding institutions, TV broadcasters and platforms, which will take place at Octogon at Leipziger Platz 14.

The Berlinale Co-Production Market team, headed by Martina Bleis, has invited ten high-calibre series projects from Europe, Brazil, New Zealand, Canada and the USA for this edition.

Writer and creator Maja Jul Larsen, known for Borgen, The Legacy, and most recently at Co-Pro Series with the multi-award-winning series Cry Wolf, and director Charlotte Sieling (known for episodes of The Bridge, Borgen and Homeland, among others) are among the renowned names behind the Danish drama The Best of Families, presented by Apple Tree Productions. This is about the impact of a chemical factory on the lives of various families and nature in the 1950s. From Brazil and the USA comes Miami Wildlife, a series about an unusual drug lord, which will be directed by Fernando Meirelles and others.

Another drug career, but in Vienna at the turn of the millennium and based on the true story of a single mother as the boss of a large hashish ring, comes from Austria with Shit Happens. Recently honoured with an Emmy for his last series co-direction, writer and director Julian Pörksen turns his attention to Merle Kröger's novel of the same name in Die Experten, about German rocket scientists in Egypt in the 1960s, espionage and the politically tense situation in the region. From Switzerland comes The Guard, a crime series set in the Vatican about members of the Swiss Guard and dirty dealings within the clergy.

As part of a cooperation with Series Mania, the Slovakian-Czech-German project Our People, which was awarded Best Pitch Project in Lille in 2024 and has already been able to establish several important partnerships, will also be presented and is looking for further partners to complete the financing.

Several English-language series projects will also be presented on stage at Co-Pro Series this year: with Ruth's Ghosts, Jennifer Fox (known for The Tale, among others) brings a dystopian story about abortion, self-determination and jurisdiction in the USA to Berlin, albeit one that is peppered with topical references. Lucy. Maud. delves into the complex life story of the successful Canadian author L.M. Montgomery, whose international bestseller Anne of Green Gables is part of school reading in some countries and has already been filmed twice as a worldwide series success.

Dynamic and darkly humorous, Recipes of a Nervous Breakdown from renowned Irish production company Deadpan Pictures tells the true story of successful chef and author Sophie White, who has to learn to deal with a sudden mental breakdown at a young age. Finally, Sk8 or Die, the story of the famous New Zealand barefoot skateboarder Lee Ralph, written and produced by award-winning creators Tom Hern and Halaifonua Finau, is about a turbulent life between success, freedom and personal setbacks.

Co-Pro Series is taking place for the eleventh time this year. International hit series such as Babylon Berlin, Freud, Davos 1917 and the award-winning sci-fi youth series Dome 16 are among the pitch participants from previous years.

Potential co-producers and interested financing partners have already registered and the spots for the entire event, including pitches, get-together and meetings, are fully booked.

The Networking Get-Together following the Co-Pro Series Pitches is organised in cooperation with the Czech Audiovisual Fund.
