International newspapers are increasingly presenting independently produced, artistic short films on their online platforms. How do the two affect each other and how can short films contribute to public discourse and the forming of independent opinions? Güzin Kar, writer, columnist and director of films including Deine Strasse (Your Street), Christine Kecher, senior commissioning editor for the “New York Times” series Op-Docs, and Serge Abiaad, managing director of Canadian film distributor La Distributrice de Films (distributors of Raquel Sancinetti’s Madeleine) discuss their experiences using the films mentioned above as examples. This screening and panel discussion is hosted by Anna Henckel-Donnersmarck, head of Berlinale Shorts.
It is a collaboration between Berlinale Shorts and the Embassy of Canada as part of the “Shorts, Communities and Conversations” series of events. Admission is free. The event is already fully booked. Please bring a valid ID card. This event is taking place in English.
