The Berlinale Mourns the Death of Polina Gumiela

It is with great sadness that the festival has learned of the passing of director Polina Gumiela.

Her film Ochite mi sini, rokljata sharena (Blue Eyes and Colorful My Dress) celebrated it‘s World Premiere in the Generation Kplus competition in 2020. In it Polina followed her then three-year old daughter exploring her surroundings. An empathic approach to childhood and a testament to the power of cinema in opening up other perspectives.

"We wish Polina would have had more time. Our thoughts are with her family and friends," says section head Maryanne Redpath.
