Sarajevo in 1993. War is raging and a group of paramilitary militiamen use homeless people and orphaned children to plunder buildings that have just been bombed. In return, the plunderers are given accommodation in an old factory and something to eat – what’s more, they are not shot dead. One of these children is Vanja, who is despised by the others because he steals so little. All except for Lara; she feels just as lonely as Vanja and is even prepared to risk her own life for his sake . . .
