The Gravedigger

Synopsis
Struggling middle-aged Somali grave digger, Guled, works hard to make ends meet. Suddenly, he finds himself facing a seemingly hopeless situation. His beloved wife Nasra (42), who suffers from chronic kidney disease, desperately needs a transplant or she will die.

Director’s note
This is a very realistic and socially relevant story told from the perspective of the lives of those who slip through society’s cracks in an era of post-colonialism in Djibouti. A country that has no social welfare system and is unable to take care of its own citizens.
The Gravedigger is a simple, intense and emotionally powerful film, which is about loving under impossible conditions, finding strength, sustaining love and force in the most difficult times.
