##
Wim Wenders was a key player in the “new German film” movement of the 1970s and is, even today, one of cinema’s great innovators. Since his first feature SUMMER IN THE CITY (1970), Wenders has shot some 50 films. Following his international breakthrough with THE AMERICAN FRIEND (1977), he worked in Europe, the US, Latin America and Asia, and received numerous festival honours all over the world, including the Golden Lion for THE STATE OF THINGS (1982), the Golden Palm for PARIS, TEXAS (1984), best director in Cannes for WINGS OF DESIRE (1987) and the Berlin festival’s Silver Bear for THE MILLION DOLLAR HOTEL (2000). The artistic director of the Deutsche Kinemathek, Dr. Rainer Rother, speaks with this year’s Honorary Golden Bear winner about his current work and the restoration of his films. A joint presentation of the Deutsche Kinemathek, Berlin, and Berlinale Talents at the HAU Hebbel am Ufer (HAU1) theatre.
