Lili Marleen

German Version | Deutsche Fassung
The story of the song broadcast by the German forces radio station Radio Belgrade that was to become a hit on all fronts and the melodramatic life of its singer is ‘orchestrated’ by Rainer Werner Fassbinder as an opulent, Ufa-like spectacle. The film tells the story of Willie, a German performer, and her love for a Swiss musician named Robert who works for a Jewish relief organisation. Remaining loyal to him throughout the war, Willie relays secret information about the death camps – thus putting her career in Nazi Germany at great risk.
