Miao Miao

Miao Miao is a shy exchange student from Japan. She’s still trying to get her bearings as she gets used to her new life in Taipei and that’s why she hasn’t noticed that a lively and utterly charming fellow pupil named Ai is falling in love with her. Instead Miao Miao falls for CD shop owner Chen Fei’s brooding charm. Twentysomething Chen Fei has definitely got a past – which he insists on keeping under wraps. He also possesses a conspicuous determination to keep everything and everyone at arm’s length. This is why he always wears headphones – but he’s not using them to listen to music. Miao Miao is the only one who finally manages to unearth his secret; the sad story that left him virtually hating music. Dejected, Ai is forced to admit that Miao Miao is beginning to lose her heart to Chen Fei, but with this realisation comes the acknowledgement that her own feelings for Miao Miao are much stronger than she had expected …
Emerging director Cheng Hsiao-Tse’s refreshingly original ‘chick flick’ is not just a moving love story. Filmed largely in the hip Taipei district of Hsimenting, his feature film debut also provides an insight into the everyday lives of young Taiwanese.
